External Relations Associate with a Growing Literacy Organization

Children's Literacy Initiative (CLI) External Relations Associate is responsible for prospect research, identifying new sources of funding, and supporting the External Relations (ER) team’s foundation, corporate, and government grant proposal and report writing. Reporting to the External Relations Manager, this position will work with the ER team to proactively identify, research, vet, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors and guide the prospect management process. Specifically, the External Relations Associate will:
  • Assist in identifying and cultivating foundations, corporations, government funding sources, and major individual donors
  • Assist in writing and preparing grant proposals and reports
  • Proofread and copy edit written materials (letters, proposals, budgets, reports, briefing materials, and promotional pieces)
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess prospect and donor capacity and inclination, and correlate donor interests to CLI priorities and opportunities
  • Summarize in-depth data to prepare concise profiles on individuals, corporations, foundations, and other opportunities for use by ER team members, CEO, and the CLI Board of Directors
  • Use the moves management tools in Raiser’s Edge NXT to manage the prospect review process, including rating and prioritizing prospects and donors in order to guide team fundraising efforts and increase productivity
  • Monitor news on current and prospective donors
  • Special projects as needed
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years experience with prospect research and fundraising
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills essential
  • Demonstrated effective project management abilities
  • Experience working with donor data bases and research tools. Familiarity with iWave PRO and Raiser’s Edge NXT, a plus.
